"The Calm After the Storm" 14"x18" is an Oil on hardboard panel, Reference photos were taken in ebruary 2017 in Yosemite National Park.

We had several inches of snow at our cabin in Groveland the day before so we were fortunate that the roads to Yosemite were clear. The sky was a bit foggy but the snow was absolutely beautiful. The road into the valley floor along the Merced river was a bit of a challenge though since the plows had covered most of the pull-outs with snow, but the snow covering the rocks in the river was beautiful so that made the effort to get to this spot well worth while. I think the storm had discouraged most would be travelers so it was extremely quiet and no breeze at all so the river was like a mirror - reflecting the snow on the rocks in the dark water. The misty remains of the earlier storm still shrouded the distant peaks which only accentuated the view of the snow on the rocks and their reflections in the water.   It was absolutely breathtaking!
